July Athlete of the Month

Jeffrey Gonzalez

Meet our Athlete of the Month for July, Jeffrey Gonzalez

Jeffrey Gonzalez has been a long time client at the gym and his dedication shows. Two years ago he competed in the Havoc games and finished 2nd, he consistently comes for group classes at least 3 times a week (even after moving from Bradenton to Sarasota), and outside of the gym he continues to live a fit and healthy lifestyle by playing soccer. Jeffrey never cuts corners and genuinely enjoys training. Everyone in the gym knows him for how fast he can finish a workout- he jokes that all that energy comes from drinking Cuban coffee. Recently, Jeffrey has been sharing his love for Fit Crew with his friends and family; we’ve been excited to welcome both his Mom and girlfriend to our gym over the last few months.

Tell us about yourself.

My family and I are originally from Venezuela, but I moved to Bradenton about 9 years ago. I work in hotel management, which I went to school at USF Sarasota for. Growing up I swam, played tennis, did karate, and played soccer.

How did you get started at Fit Crew?

I was going to a normal gym before, however, I found myself getting bored and I was not seeing much improvement. I heard someone talking about cross training and “Crossfit style” workouts. I wanted to give it a try, so I went to Fit Crew and loved it.

What has been your proudest athletic moment?

My proudest athletic moment was getting in 2nd place at the Havoc Crossfit Games 2015.

What is your favorite and least favorite movement/lift/drill?

My favorite movement is basically anything with the bar such as power cleans or push presses, especially as AMRAPs. I don’t think that I have least favorite movement.

What do you think makes Fit Crew different from other gyms that you’ve tried in the past?

Fit Crew is different than other gyms because they keep you moving the whole hour. At a normal gym they just have a bunch of machines and it’s easy to get bored, since there’s no one there to push or motivate you to be stronger.

What do you like to do when you’re not training at Fit Crew?

When I’m not training at Fit Crew I like to go to the beach, go running, go to the movies, play soccer and spend time with my family.

Tell us a fun fact that we might not already know about you.

I have a dual citizenship from Spain.
